SECO and Axelera AI strengthen partnership bringing METIS™ AI accelerators to the Edge at Embedded World 2025

SECO and Axelera AI strengthen their partnership to unveil AI-powered edge computing solutions at embedded world 2025, featuring the METIS™ AI accelerators for industrial, security, and retail applications, with live demos at their booths.

SECO, a leading provider of edge computing and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, and Axelera AI, a pioneer in artificial intelligence (AI) acceleration technologies, are further strengthening their partnership to drive AI-powered edge computing innovation. At embedded world 2025, SECO will unveil a new lineup of edge computing solutions integrating Axelera AI’s METIS™ AI accelerators, delivering high performance for industrial automation, security & surveillance, and retail applications. Through live demonstrations at SECO's booth (1.320) and Axelera AI's booth (H2.440), attendees will experience the combined power of SECO’s advanced embedded platforms and Axelera AI’s high-performance artificial intelligence processing unit (AIPU), optimized for edge inference, including computer vision, machine vision, and robot vision use cases.

Axelera AI empowers businesses with an optimized ecosystem designed for efficient AI inference at the edge, enabling high-performance, low-latency processing even in energy-constrained environments and allowing complex workloads to operate independently of the cloud. SECO is integrating Axelera AI’s technology into both its hardware and software products, creating a complete AI/IoT market offering. This facilitates the development and execution of complex, parallel neural networks and delivers outsized AI inference performance.

SECO introduces the SOM-COMe-BT6-RK3588, a COM Express® Type 6 module that combines the power of the Rockchip RK3588 processor with Axelera AI’s Metis AIPU, making it ideal for industrial AI workloads. Key specifications include: 32 GB LPDDR5-3200 memory for the CPU and a separate 2 GB LPDDRx-2133 for the AIPU, 1x Gigabit Ethernet, 2x USB Type-C with DP Alt mode, 4x USB 5 Gbps, 4x PCIe lanes, and AI performance of up to 214 TOPS at INT8 precision with 15 TOPS/W energy efficiency. The Metis AIPU integration brings powerful computer vision capabilities to industrial automation, robotics, and security systems, enabling real-time object detection, defect inspection, and predictive maintenance.

Moreover, at the SECO booth, visitors will discover the Axelera M.2 AI accelerator card powered by a quad-core Metis AIPU, an M.2 Key B+M plug-in module that enables slot-equipped edge computing systems with high-performance edge AI processing. Its M.2 2280 size integrates into a wide range of systems. Example uses include multicamera AI processing in surveillance and drones/UAVs, gesture recognition in robotics, and improving real-time diagnostics in medical applications.

In the medical field, SECO’s booth will showcase a demonstration featuring a tumor identification system powered by the Palladio 500 RPL industrial computer, running a 13th Gen Intel® Core™ processor (formerly known as Raptor Lake) with Axelera PCIe AI accelerator card. This system employs a segmentation model that enhances a doctor’s ability to diagnose tumors quickly and accurately without replacing the physician, running at 116 frames per second entirely at the edge. This can lead to earlier detection and better treatment outcomes. All processing is done locally, guaranteeing that sensitive patient data never leaves the device, thereby facilitating compliance with stringent patient privacy standards. This combined processing architecture allows further scaling of services and future adoption of innovations without relying on centralized cloud-based computing.

Another demo at SECO’s booth will showcase industrial computer vision enabled with Clea (SECO’s advanced modular IoT and AI software suite) and the Axelera Metis AI accelerator. Here, a gesture-controlled user interface (UI) utilizes artificial intelligence to facilitate hands-free interaction with industrial equipment. The AI algorithm is developed using Clea AI Studio, a visual programming studio that creates service flows based on multiple LLMs to deploy AI-powered applications on edge devices. The AI algorithm runs on the Axelera Metis AIPU. Designed for touchless control in manufacturing and automation, it highlights the versatility, responsiveness, and AI performance of SECO’s edge computing solutions for smart factories and industrial environments.

Moreover, at Axelera AI’s booth (H2-440), the previously mentioned SECO’s latest SOM-COMe-BT6-RK3588, powered by the Rockchip RK3588 SoC and paired with Axelera AI’s Metis AIPU, will be showcased within a dedicated object detection demo. The system runs seamlessly on Clea OS (SECO’s Yocto-based Linux distribution that facilitates AI and IoT deployments), integrating Axelera’s VoyagerTM software development kit (SDK) to optimize AI performance. The demo features a real-time object detection model, utilizing a camera feed for instant object recognition. The AI model from Axelera's Model Zoo highlights the system’s ability to handle high-performance edge AI applications with low latency and maximum efficiency.

"Our collaboration with Axelera AI is a testament to our commitment to pushing the boundaries of AI-driven edge computing,” stated Vincenzo Difronzo, Chief Sales Officer of SECO. “By integrating Axelera’s Metis AIPU into SECO’s portfolio, we are delivering high-performance, scalable solutions that unlock new opportunities for our clients, enabling them to deploy powerful AI applications with efficiency and confidence.”

”We are delighted to be broadening our work with SECO to bring inference solutions to every industry,” added Alexis Crowell, Chief Marketing Officer for Axelera AI. “AI has the capacity to solve real-world problems, and Axelera’s goal is to empower everyone with high-performance, cost-effective solutions.
