Smart Coffee Solution

What challenges we faced

Our customer was a world-leading manufacturer of professional coffee machines and a major international player in both Ho.Re.Ca. and OCS sectors. Relying on a great expertise in the field of vending machines for public spaces, the customer need was to enable new value-added services for recurring revenue and cost reduction. All without forgetting the importance of ensuring a great user experience to end-product users for better coffee breaks.

What we did

SECO equipped the customer’s automated coffee machines with gateways as retrofit, also providing connection to CLEA, Device Manager for OTA update and connectivity Manager. Machines were made “always connected” through Global SIM card, Wi-Fi and BT connection, geo-localization micro service. SECO also offered UX and Service Design consulting and certifications and provided training to accelerate the clients’ employees’ buy-in.

Results we achieved

About 20K smart coffee machines were placed, with savings of more than $250 per machine per year. Plans for the near future include the deployment of other machines and the improvement of savings for logistics and operational cost reduction. Smart coffee machines are now able to collect data which can be resold for accurate forecasting about the whole coffee supply chain, and full control of consumables is guaranteed to the business partners. Improvements to the loyalty and value of the business for the customer’s ecosystem of partners were made via new data services, efficiency, and new revenues.
