Aerospace & Defense
Defense electronics represent some of the most demanding and technologically advanced electronics in the world. To minimize design costs and cycle time, there is pressure to apply existing technology to meet the ever-increasing demands of military and intelligence operations. SECO offers the following for aerospace/defense applications:
- Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) embedded computers in standard system-on-module (SOM) form-factors such as SMARC, COM Express, and COM-HPC
- Rugged military-grade tablets
- Optimized UAV and UGV controllers
- Modified COTS and custom designed circuitry and devices optimized for the mission

Characteristics of Military-Grade Devices
Military-grade devices, particularly handheld devices such as military rugged tablets, must meet a stringent set of specifications that goes well beyond other computers. A rugged embedded computer, defense grade tablet, and other defense grade handheld or portable device must:
- Operate reliably over widely varying temperatures from desert to arctic environments
- Resist shocks, drops, impacts, and prolonged vibration
- Be impervious to damage caused by dust, sand, moisture, and water
- Resist EMI (electromagnetic interference) and comply with other electronic devices (EMC)
- Be exceptionally durable and reliable to operate with prolonged life
- Be viewable in direct sunlight, and often night vision compatible, but undetectable by others in complete darkness
- Operate with gloved hands
- Be available for purchase for long periods of time, often 10 years or more

Defense Applications of Electronic Devices
