SECO designs and manufactures embedded systems from the single microcomputer to integrated and “ready-to-use” systems, with both ARM and x86 architectures.
Through continuous investments in Research & Development, over the years SECO has acquired highly-specialized know-how, capable of managing all phases of the project internally in a timely and efficient manner, from concept to hardware, software and mechanical design, to engineering, mass-production and testing, up to system integration and customer-oriented services – including those in the IoT domain – that complete the product, like BIOS personalisation, surface treatments, simulation and measurement activities and specific certifications for PCBs that have industrial prerequisites.
SECO has always believed in keeping its production in-house and: due to the internalization of the entire manufacturing process and its continuous improvement in lean manufacturing, Industry 4.0 and digital twin framework, the company can exercise a comprehensive control over products during the manufacturing phase, in order to improve and enhance it constantly.
SECO implement a policy of significant and constant investments in both systems and machines and in the continuous improvement of processes, which over time guarantee a product that’s cutting-edge, reliable, and high-quality: this is why the company is equipped with a Metrological Laboratory and an Anechoic Chamber, with online and x-ray automatic optical inspection (AOI) systems, flying probes, jtags for a full check of every production batch, “Total Quality” processes for the traceability of raw materials and finished products, obsolescence management and hardware and software technical support.
A further source of added value is provided by System Integration services, integrating electronic components into the customer’s mechanical enclosures, for the purpose of providing a finished or semi-finished product that’s easy to integrate into the end product.
SECO is able to guarantee its customers specific technical support not only during the manufacturing phase but also subsequently, through an efficient post-sale assistance, becoming a reliable technological partner of reference.

SECO offers a wide range of options, starting with standard modular solutions such as Qseven®, COM Express™, and SMARC.
SECO has always been firmly committed to excellence in technological engineering and a continuous improvement in the quality of its standards, particularly Qseven®, of which SECO was a co-founder in 2008, helping give life to the Qseven Consortium, later absorbed into the SGET Consortium (“Standardization Group for Embedded Technologies”).
Due to its compactness and ease of integration, this innovative modular form factor (70 x 70 mm) has had enormous success and consolidated its position on the embedded market over the years, valued by users who continue to choose it for its advantageous cost/performance ratio for low-power applications.
With a long and unmatchable experience in Qseven® design, and thanks to the development of Cross-Platform philosophy – centred on the hardware scalability that offers customers the flexibility to develop their own carrier and use it with all Qseven® modules with either x86 or ARM architecture – today SECO is the OEM with the most extensive portfolio of Qseven® modules on the market.
SECO’s standard product range incorporates Single-Board Computers (including the form factors embedded NUC™ and Pico-ITX), semi-custom solutions that include combined carrier boards with modular solutions, HMIs and boxed solutions.
In addition to standard products, SECO is able to offer full-custom solutions: wholly personalized according to the customer’s needs, on the basis of the project’s specifications, through totally customer-oriented processes and services.
In the embedded market, where the solutions offered frequently adhere to severe manufacturing standards, SECO has chosen to stand out by offering its customers solutions that, even when they remain in the scope of standard products – with advantages to the customer like the reliability of consolidated technologies and cost containment – are able to integrate themselves flawlessly with their end products.
In an industrial market increasingly oriented towards integrated plug-and-play solutions, embedded system integration is one of the main focuses of SECO’s strategy: development, integration and production of robust systems suitable for the industrial world, realized completely according to the customer’s requirements thanks to the Research & Development Department, with both ARM and x86 architectures.

SECO’s vocation for innovation is also prevalent in the area of process innovation. SECO follows cutting-edge “Total Quality” industrial processes and procedures and increasingly advanced workflows, constantly monitored and perfected, in the framework of the methodological standardisation with which the company approaches and manages the development of products and the processes of production associated with them, in order to satisfy customers’ technological demands promptly, efficiently and flexibly.
The development process of a new product has been designed by SECO with the precise aim of improving the quality of the products and reducing development costs and time, to benefit the competitiveness of the customer’s project. In fact, product development begins with an analysis and in-depth study of the customer’s specific situation: SECO relies on this to deliver a concept and develop prototypes to put through test and a debugging phase before moving into production.
SECO also follows a process of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA), which aims to provide design guidelines with an eye to the integration of components in the end product, from a perspective of simplification, optimisation, and increased efficiency in terms of time, costs, and functionality.

Process of Product Design and Development
The process of product design and development calls for a path, defined as either standard or custom depending on the project, that is articulated in phases:
- - Concept (in the case of standard projects)/Budgeting (in the case of custom projects);
- - Prototyping;
- - Validation;
- - Pre-production;
- - Mass Production.
The passage from one phase to another is marked by the bypassing of a Gate, a moment of verification and control that the project is respecting the established technical prerequisites and is in line with the calendar and costs established in the budgeting phase, and in which the production of certain results is anticipated.
SECO is able to manage orders using various models according to the customer’s needs:
- - Purchase to Order: the process of purchasing the components begins following the customer’s order;
- - Make to Order: the production process begins following the customer’s order;
- - Assemble to Order: the product’s basic parts are already produced but not assembled. Thanks to that, the products ordered by the customers are manufactured rapidly and are personalizable to a certain degree;
- - Make to Stock: the products are manufactured on the basis of forecasts and are therefore ready as soon as the order is placed.
Throughout the various stages of the project and up to mass production the customer receives appointed professionals who supervise the status in each phase: a single contact person as technical interface (the project coordinator) and a single commercial contact. The customer is fully supported in a comprehensive fashion, and not just during the product’s development phases: after mass production, the company departments dedicated to post-sale assistance and customer care take over.
The management of each project is entrusted to a Core Team :
- - a Coordinator who constitutes the leader of the project, monitors the progress of the various activities in order to maintain coherence with estimates of time, costs and allocated resources;
- - four Core Team Members (CTMs): members of the R&D HW, R&D Integration, Sourcing and Manufacturing departments;
- - each member the Core Team is responsible for coordinating the activities performed by the resources of an Extended Team (Electronics, EMI, Software, THT, Testing, System Integration, Service, Mechanics, Pricing, Buyer).
The PMO (Project Management Officer) and the Quality Office support the Core Team, verify the conformity of the activities performed in the various phases with respect to the initial estimates, and authorize, when appropriate, the passage to the next phase of development.

Ever since its foundation in 1979, SECO has structured its own activities and those of its affiliates respecting the principles of sustainability. The company’s management itself commits to guaranteeing that those premises have a dominant role in every company decision and activity.
This sensibility has led SECO to recognize all the national and international norms concerning sustainability and human rights to guarantee that its activities do not violate, even indirectly, important human, ethical and cultural values and are not carried out to the detriment of the environment.
This goal is also implemented through the certification and sensitization of its main suppliers to international issues concerning the implementation of norms for new sustainability demands.
SECO has thus built up a chain of companies that share the principles of defending the environment, human rights, ethics, and social justice.
The principles of honesty, transparency and fairness in administrative management and corporate behavior in general have always been the cornerstones of SECO’s activities, in every internal and external environment. With the objective of consolidating and disseminating as much as possible this organizational approach, SECO has recently adopted a specific document system called “Organizational Model”, pursuant to Legislative Decree no. 231 of June 8th, 2001, Italian legislation concerning the administrative compliance of legal persons. A fundamental part of the aforementioned documentation is represented by the Code of Ethics which defines the principles and behaviors that SECO promotes and those that SECO rejects.

SECO’s Commitment to the Environment
SECO’s sensibility to environmental issues has grown hand-in-hand with its increase in production capacity and the development of the services offered to its customers.
SECO has made its manufacturing plant the centre of its environmental activity, developing and performing constant checks on its own processes and the environmental impact of the group’s companies has been minimized thanks to the company’s policy which mandated the checking of every aspect: from the choice of construction materials for new buildings to the disposal and reuse of waste and production materials.
In 2018 SECO built a new headquarter facility on the cutting edge in terms of environmental impact, complete with the ISO 14000 certification.
Compliance with the RoHS Directive
With the announcement of the RoHS Directive (Directive 2002/95/EC on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment) and then RoHS2 (norm 2011/65/EC), SECO has implemented a system of product/process control that goes beyond the company itself through the verification of its own suppliers and the employment of specialized laboratories that certify the respect of the norms.
All SECO products are compliant with the RoHS norm and, thanks to the manufacturing organization, SECO can also guarantee the respect of such legislations developed by foreign legislative bodies, such as RoHS China, RoHS Korea, RoHS India, RoHS Taiwan, and so on, which limit the use of dangerous substances.
Compliance with RoHS norms may be tracked:
- for EC products, by the mark “CE” itself as called for by RoHS2;
- for semi-finished products and boards, through the issuance of ad hoc certificates and analyses compiled in relation to the customer’s needs.

SECO’s commitment to sustainability takes concrete form in supporting the goals of norms and regulations related to sustainable development. In addition, SECO certifies its own suppliers, committing itself not to source consciously or voluntarily from companies that do not apply sustainability principles.
The Dodd - Frank Act
The United States has released the Dodd Frank Act with the goal of eliminating illegal trafficking in gold, tin, tantalum and tungsten that supports armed groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo (RDC) and surrounding nations. SECO recognizes the Dodd-Frank Act as an environmental and ethical policy necessary for the survival of the planet and the respect of human dignity.
